Richard has particular expertise in contracts for the sale and purchase, transportation, and storage of petroleum products, coal, LNG, and LPG and, more recently, in relation to the trading of carbon credits. His practice also encompasses more commodities work.

This instruction included advice on liability for any future contamination and securing adequate insurance cover for any contingent environmental liability.

Advising a telecommunications company on their entitlement to obtain a blanket licence for installation of telecommunications apparatus including and involving close liaison with the various government departments concerned, including the Land Department.

Acting for a Taiwanese bidder in their bid for the construction and operation of a terminal for the regasification and distribution of liquefied natural gas.

Acting closely for a PRC petrochemical major in pursuing upstream and mid-stream investments in, and relating to oil and gas projects in the Middle East.

Acting in relation to the enforcement, in Hong Kong, of negative pledge and security provision arrangements. These arrangements related to the ownership and operation of a corporate in Hong Kong and transferred to New York for onward sale once repossessed. This multi jurisdiction instruction involved Hong Kong court proceedings and liaison with counsel based in New York and Bermuda.

Acting in relation to disputes arising from breaches of a lease agreement in relation to two aircraft engines. This instruction involved obtaining, at short notice, urgent injunctive relief in Hong Kong in relation to a commercial aircraft landing at Hong Kong international Airport and in bring related arbitration and interim relief proceedings. The international team working on this involved counsel from Singapore, New York and Bangkok.

Acting for a lessor enforcing its contractual rights in relation to aircraft employed on routes between Hong Kong and Thailand and involving the rapid, and successful, detention of two aircraft, one in Hong Kong and one in Thailand.
