Maria is a ship finance associate advising leading international banks in all stages of bilateral or syndicated ship finance transactions, from initial negotiations of the term sheet to post-closing and enforcement of loan facilities.

Maria is qualified to practice in both England and Wales and Greece.

Maria has experience in major restructuring work and dealt with owners’ work in respect of review and negotiations of a building contract, charterparty agreement and sale/purchase documentation and involved in vessels’ registration in various jurisdictions.

Maria is also advising on Greek law aspects of a ship finance transaction and is involved in the preparation of various security documents and compliance under Greek law and Greek legal opinions. 

Maria holds degrees from The American College in Greece and Dimokritio University of Thrace. She holds a Master of Laws in International Trade Law from London University.

Advising on complex ship finance restructurings with numerous jurisdictions involved and with certain emphasis on Greek law aspects. Acting for a Dutch bank in relation to a US$21m syndicated cross-collateralised facility where the borrower bareboat chartered its vessel to a third party Brazilian bareboat charterer under the Brazilian flag.

Acting for a German bank, in its capacity as lender, agent, swap provider and security agent, in relation to a syndicated facility for the re-financing of a bulk-carrier vessel registered in the ownership of a Turkish borrower forming part of a major Turkish conglomerate active in shipping and shipbuilding, including advising on a security structure involving Turkish, Marshall Islands and Maltese corporate guarantors, personal guarantees, shares pledges, and mortgages. The deal included interesting questions regarding the concept of "trust" structures and "parallel debt" principles and priority issues.

Acting for a German bank in relation to a $30m syndicated facility in relation to the refinancing of 2 product tankers owned by a major Turkish group, involving complex Turkish law aspects including stamp duty issues.

Greek law aspects of ship finance transactions.

Drafting Greek law preferred mortgage security, account pledges over accounts located in Greece and shares pledges under Greek law for loan facilities governed by English law, including the translation and, where required, registration of such security. 

Advising in relation to Greek inheritance law and probate matters for a British national with property based in Greece, including advising in relation to the closure of bank accounts and sale of property.

Conducting registry, court and company searches in relation to real property and Greek registered vessels at the relevant registries in Greece.

Assisting various Banks with Greek Mortgage discharges upon repayment or prepayment of loan facilities.
