Kulraj advises clients on a wide range of rail matters, including procurement documentation, manufacture, supply and maintenance contracts and regulatory regimes.

Kulraj's experience working in-house for one of the United Kingdom's leading rolling stock owners has provided him with invaluable practical experience in the day to day operations of rail industry participants (both public and private sector) as well as an insight into the drivers and concerns facing rail operators today.

Prior to joining Stephenson Harwood, Kulraj worked at another leading law firm where he advised financiers and operators in a broad range of rail issues, including rolling stock manufacturing, maintenance and leasing arrangements.

Advising on the structuring and financing of a major depot improvement and enhancement to facilitate the introduction of a new fleet of trains.

Rail contracts

Advising on all aspects of the rail industry including bids for franchise agreements and the on-going operation of franchise agreements.

Operational advice

Advising clients during the operational phase of their contracts and providing support on various aspects including contract interpretation, and supply chain arrangements.

Advising on the financing of rolling stock and contracts relating to their manufacture, modification, refurbishment and maintenance (for both manufacturers and sponsors).

Rolling stock leasing

Advising on operating leases for existing and new rolling stock units and drafting amendments to the same during the term of the relevant lease.

Rolling stock financing

Advising a financier in relation to the financing of a fleet of AT300 bi-mode units, including advice in relation to manufacture, maintenance and leasing contracts relating to the fleet.

Advising owners / financiers in relation to documents regarding the manufacture and leasing of new rolling stock for a variety of UK franchise bids.

Franchising and concessions

Advising franchise bidders in relation to documents for various UK franchises.

Existing rolling stock

Advising on the sale and purchase arrangements relating to an existing fleet of rolling stock. Advising on leasing and maintenance arrangements in respect of existing rolling stock.

Day-to-day operations

Advising owners and operators on aspects of their on-going operations (including large-scale maintenance and leasing contracts).
