Jonathan advises a wide range of clients on commercial and technology transactions and data privacy. He heads up the firm's data protection and information law practice and is known for providing pragmatic and practical advice assisted by his experience on secondment at the Information Commissioner's Office and certain global banks.

Jonathan regularly advises customers on commercial contracts such as franchise agreements, agency and distribution agreements and supply agreements as well as on more complex outsourcings and technology agreements. 

Jonathan is also a specialist in data protection and information law having been seconded while at his previous firm to the Information Commissioner's Office.  He provides data privacy advice to a number of clients, notably financial institutions life science companies and technology companies.

He also has experience in drafting and negotiating telecoms contracts including advising on backhaul and ethernet services contracts for business customers for a large telecommunications company.

Jonathan's diverse practice also encompasses advising on contracts for the sale and purchase of art works, acting for a number of dealers and auction houses in connection with consignment agreements, agency agreements and standard terms and conditions.

His recent experience includes acting for an international bank on a mobile payment outsourcing, advising a large IT and advisory firm on its software licensing and development terms and implementing an international intra-group data transfer agreement across 13 jurisdictions.

Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Limited

Jonathan acts as the external legal contact for the London hotel and advises on a full range of commercial agreements including supplier arrangements and agreements relating to the health and fitness facilities at the hotel. In the management sphere, he has advised the hotel on management arrangements with the adjoining luxury retail apartments, One Hyde Park.

Aparthotel owning property company

Advised a property company on the hotel management agreement relating to the development and operation of an Aparthotel in London by a third party management company.

easyHotel

Ancillary to our wider advice to easyHotel on its placing and admission to trading on the AIM Market of the London stock exchange, Jonathan has advised the company on a variety of hotel management and franchise agreements as it seeks to build its international network across the EU and elsewhere.

Mandarin Oriental International Group

Advised the international hotel group on the management arrangements relating to luxury hotel and residential complex in the Caribbean.

The Fine Art Society

Advised on some ground-breaking technology contracts for the sale and purchase of work by innovative artists Rob and Nick Carter. This involved the licensing of technology and hardware which underpinned their interactive works “Transforming” which utilised iPads to display digital works which change over time. 

LAPADA

Advised on developing the standard terms of sale for use by over 600 members.  This involved advice on the recently implemented Consumer Contracts Regulations and developing a set of user friendly terms in plain English which were capable of re-use by its members. 

Society of London Art Dealers

Regularly act on various matters for this long-standing client, revising its standard terms of sale to reflect changes in consumer contracts laws, advising on terms for the provision of buying advice and advising on commission arrangements.

Auction house

Advised on the right of a consumer who bids in an online auction to cancel the sales contract, which is a key concern for auction houses at the moment, given the rising popularity of online sales.

Artist

Advising a contemporary artist on the terms of assignment of his art works being displayed in a fashion house’s global stores.

Major west-end dealer

Advised on back to back sale contracts for a painting and on issues arising in relation to English and New York law as to the consignment of works to an international gallery.
