Hyun Woo is an associate with an extensive range of dispute resolution experience in the shipping sector. His work has included offshore energy disputes, charterparty disputes and analysing the implications of international sanctions.

Hyun Woo specialises in disputes arising from commercial contracts. He has experience with issues of contractual interpretation in offshore energy, marine insurance and charterparty disputes and his experiences have been further enhanced whilst working in Stephenson Harwood's office in Seoul, South Korea.

His work further extends to analysing the implications of international sanctions for various parties operating in the international shipping industry.

He has represented clients in arbitrations under LMAA Terms.

Representing a contractor under an agreement for the chartering of an offshore drilling rig in a dispute concerning HSE failures and the applicable rate of hire during periods of purported suspended drilling operations.

Cargo damage

Representing disponent owners against a claim by consignees for damaged bulk cargo and bringing claims against head owners in back-to-back charterparty chains.

Casualty – bulk cargo fire

Responding in the immediate aftermath of an explosion of cargo on board a bulk carrier vessel. Working closely alongside an IG P&I Club, anticipating claims likely to arise within the charterparty chain under the ICA Rules and negotiating/corresponding with large numbers of parties and experts.

Vessel arrest

Successfully arresting a vessel in a foreign jurisdiction by way of security on behalf of a shipyard in a dispute arising under a contract for the provision of heavy lift services.

Marine insurance

Advising insurance institutions in disputes concerning exemptions under the Institute War and Strikes clauses of marine insurance policies where vessels have purported to be seized under "ordinary judicial processes".

English court injunction

Successfully obtaining an urgent English court injunction to restrain a specialist vessel threatening to depart a shipyard without performing its contractual obligations.
