Ellen Sofie has extensive experience in advising international shipping companies and major shipping market banks in most aspects of ship finance and cross-border commercial shipping transactions, including syndicated ship and fleet financings,  sale and lease-back, long term charters, sale and purchase transactions, ship registration, shipbuilding contracts, refund guarantees and related  matters for a broad range of ships, including oil tankers, cruise ships, chemical tankers, LNG ships, cargo ships, bulk carriers, container ships, ferries and offshore supply ships.

She has advised drilling contractors in relation to the sale, purchase and registration of drilling rigs, drill ships and offshore units, and the negotiation of drilling contracts. 

She has advised shipowners in relation to the restructuring of financing transactions including Chapter11 issues, restructuring of long term charter arrangements and joint ventures.  

She has advised shipyards in relation to seller's credit facilities, shipbuilding contracts, novation agreements and refund guarantees.

Fleet financings

Advising a Dutch bank on a US$525 million syndicated fleet financing for a major container company, and for an American bank in relation to other syndicated facilities for the same company.

Advising various Nordic and US banking syndicates in relation to several fleet and multi-ship financings for world major tanker company, as well as ongoing work with the re-flagging and sale of vessels under these facilities.

Advising European bank syndicate in relation to several fleet financings and associated newbuilding programme for major Ukrainian shipping company.

Construction financing

Advising a major European shipyard on a €700 million syndicated secured loan and guarantee facility for the part-financing of the construction of up to 5 cruise ships.

Advising Canadian ship-owner on various pre- and post-delivery financings of multi-purpose cargoship newbuildings, and related dual flag registrations.

Advising a listed US shipping company on the restructuring of a US$150 million loan facility with a British bank led syndicate, including Chapter 11 issues.
