Ben provides clear and user-friendly solutions to businesses in need of his environmental and planning law expertise. He advises clients across all sectors, but has particular experience in real estate development and the consenting and regulation of infrastructure projects. Ben leads the firm's environment and planning law team.

Ben has a broad environmental law practice, including the management of environmental liabilities and risks; site remediation; the environmental aspects of M&A transactions; environmental permit appeals; EU product regulation and stewardship issues; waste and emissions; and the consenting, permitting and regulatory aspects of large infrastructure developments, with a particular emphasis on both renewable and conventional power projects. Ben is the vice chair of the UK Environmental Law Association.

According to clients, Ben is "sharp and measured, with a real knowledge of the field" (Chambers UK 2013).

He also guides developers, funders, contractors, purchasers, and occupiers through the myriad of planning law and regulation, including compulsory purchase, negotiating statutory planning and infrastructure agreements, conducting appeals and judicial review.

Acting for a large manufacturer of domestic and leisure goods, based in the USA, in relation to its compliance duties under the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regime.

Valero Energy Limited

Advising Valero in relation to its objection to a necessary wayleave application (akin compulsory purchase proceedings) made by South Hook CHP Project in relation to its Combined Heat and Power Plant in Wales. We negotiated commercial agreements that protect Valero’s sensitive operations at its Pembroke Oil Refinery.

Advising NLWA in relation to its application for a Development Consent Order for its 70MW energy recovery (waste-to-energy) project in Edmonton, North London.

Bouwfonds European Real Estate Parking Fund S.a.r.l and Bouwfonds IM Financial Services – part of the Bouwfonds Group

Representing the owners of two investment properties (car parks) which will have to be acquired to make way for the Westfield Shopping Centre. We advised our clients on all aspects of the proposed redevelopment, in particular on the CPO process.

Schroder Real Estate Investment Trust

Advised SREIT in relation to the redevelopment of a large strategic site next to the Wembley Stadium, following our involvement securing the planning permission for a mixed use 400,000 sq ft scheme.

We are acting for our client, a development company that focuses on building renewable power plants that use waste as the feedstock, in relation to the development of an energy from waste plant in the north of England, developing the project on a heavily contaminated industrial site.
