At SH, we recognise that the role of the secretary is constantly evolving and that our secretaries are integral to providing excellent client service.  So we don't just look for secretaries who have strong secretarial skills (although this of course is important); we place equal emphasis on the qualities our secretaries demonstrate such as initiative, professionalism and the ability to work well with others.
 
Undoubtedly these are high standards, but those that make the grade receive varied and interesting careers, the chance to be genuinely valued for their contribution, plus the opportunity to work in a friendly, inclusive and supportive environment.
 
We are also committed to the development of our secretaries. For example, in London we have an ongoing development programme, covering both soft skills and technical training which is linked to the expectations set out in our competency framework.  This ensures that our secretaries remain highly skilled and receive the recognition and the support they require to perform their roles effectively. In turn, this will ensure that our lawyers are able to focus on what they do best - providing legal advice and delivering high quality work for our clients.
